Amicus Care, rooted in a strong commitment to outstanding child care, recognises that providing care for children who have encountered severe trauma early in their lives is a challenging and complex undertaking. At the core of our approach is the creation of a secure base for each child, which we facilitate through our relational model of care.
Our work commences with the dedicated key worker. We believe it's critical for the child to initially foster a safe, trusting relationship with a single individual, rather than expecting them to handle multiple relationships immediately upon their arrival. Indeed, the key worker plays an essential role in our children and young people's lives throughout their stay and beyond.
We also understand the significance of offering a warm, safe, and emotionally secure home for our young people and invest in creating an environment as a family would. This includes having personal items on display, toys, books and associated play equipment in the living room to play with, and a bedroom they can personalise to create a space where they feel comfortable and enjoy spending time. We cherish mealtimes together, where we can discuss their day at school and plan for the weekend.
Routines, structure, and boundaries are implemented to support and nurture the unmet needs of the children. Regular meetings, study days, and case management meetings are all strategically established to maintain a culture of development, honesty and space to contemplate each child's progress.
Key workers are a crucial part of the child's team and maintain regular meetings with the child they care for to establish strategies and coping mechanisms that help manage feelings and anxieties appropriately.
Key workers understand the importance of keeping the child in mind. Sending a postcard while on holiday, creating cherished memories for the young people, are all part of their role. They also work as a team with a broader group of professionals to ensure that young people have clear future plans. Our exceptional approach stems from a passionate and dedicated workforce that inspires young people not just to survive, but to thrive.
We acknowledge the pivotal role residential care workers play in the lives of our young people. This is more than just a career, it's a calling that supports children and young people in developing relationships and a sense of self, which in turn enables them to grow.
We believe that our relational model of care, and the skilled, dedicated group of professionals who deliver it daily, provides children placed in our care with the best opportunity to recover and rebuild their lives.
